HISTORY
Melipona honey comes from the Melipona beecheii, a small stingless bee native to the Yucatan Peninsula and the highlands of Guatemala. For more than 3,000 years, Maya communities have practiced meliponiculture, the careful cultivation of these gentle bees in hollowed log hives, passing the tradition down through generations.
Known to the Maya as a sacred, healing honey, it was traditionally used to soothe eye irritation, wounds, and respiratory ailments. Because Melipona bees are far less productive than common honeybees, their honey remains rare, prized for its purity and its deep cultural significance.
